Simplify Life By Switching Power Remotely

There are many instances, when we need to switch on or off a device, but are unable to do so, because we are not physically present anywhere near the device. This is a frustrating problem, and you have to either reach the location of the device, or depend on someone else present at that location to do it for you. Such situations can be avoided with a remote control power switch.

Let us first analyze some day-to-day situations, where you might need to switch power remotely. If you are not at home, and want to create the impression that someone is still in the house, you need to control your lights. By switching on and off various lights in the house remotely, you can create this impression, and keep anybody from breaking into your empty house. In addition, on a cold or hot day, you can switch on your heater or air-conditioning system much before you reach home, and arrive to a comfortable space that is at the right temperature.

A remote control power switch has many applications in business as well, especially in managing computer networks. Managing a network is a difficult task, and it becomes even more daunting when network elements are in several remote locations. Many errors can be rectified in a computer or network by a simple reboot of the server. The actual operation is very simple, where the person is required only to press a power button, but it becomes complicated and frustrating, when there is no one present to do this simple task. A company might have its IT department housed only in the main office, and when power switching is required on a server in the branch after office hours, the network administrator has a major problem.

Many times the equipment is in a remote location, at a facility where different network elements are housed. In the event of a problem, the solution is usually a simple switching off, and again powering the server. Now, when the administrator is unable to control the power remotely, then he or she has to call the service personnel in the facility that is going to charge for their services. This time-consuming and costly situation can be avoided by installing a power switch that can be controlled remotely.

The installation will have to be done on the equipment present in the remote location. The administrator will then have control over it through a secure connection, and the switching or rebooting can be initiated through ASCII commands, or through options in a menu that is web-based. Remote control power switch is available in different models having various features, and one can choose a model which best suits the purpose.
